If you only have a Windows 8.0 (or an upgrade or OEM key that doesn't work in the installer dialog box), install with a generic key: If you have a Windows 8.1 key, you can just enter it during installation and skip the following steps, continue with install and setup as normal.
Make DVD or USB with the media creation tool: (make sure to select a Windows edition that doesn't have "N" after it, unless your key is specifically for an N edition.)
